The
Journey of a Disciple
On the UCC calendar,
the time between the celebration of Jesus’ baptism and Transfiguration Sunday
is a time to focus on discipleship. The
Worship Enhancement Committee decided to try to discover the steps that are part
of the journey taken to become a disciple.
To our surprise, those “steps” have not changed much since the fishermen
dropped their nets nearly 2000 years ago.
Starting on the right side of
the back wall in the
sanctuary and moving clockwise, we have illustrated these steps
that have remained the
same for centuries. The first step,
literally, that each disciple made was to follow Christ. In following Him, they learned about Him by
listening to
what He said and
watching what He did. As they followed and
learned, they began to understand some of His teachings. They shared what they knew with others. They
were the first
disciples. Some of the others joined with them and became disciples, too. The circle continues as more people follow
Christ, learn, understand, share, join together and even more people follow
Christ, learn…….
The journey of
disciples continues today as we follow Christ, read and listen to learn
His teachings, understand His mission, share what we know and
join together with
others to become and to be
disciples. The journey will never end
just as God’s love
for each of us will
never end. Safe
journey to all.
